Check your exact measurements
Enter your dog, crate and cargo-area dimensions. The calculator checks dog fit and vehicle fit separately.
What the calculator checks
A crate can be the right size for a dog but still be too tall for a hatch opening. Fit My Crate compares the crate’s interior with your dog, then compares its exterior with five usable vehicle measurements. It tests both lengthwise and sideways orientations.
Measurements you need
- Dog body length: nose to the base of the tail.
- Dog standing height: floor to the highest point of the head or ears.
- Dog shoulder width: straight across the widest point.
- Crate interior and exterior length, width and maximum height.
- Vehicle opening width and height, cargo width, depth and lowest usable height.
Why measurements beat weight alone
Two dogs of the same weight can have different body lengths, head heights and shoulder widths. Breed or weight charts are useful starting points, but the final decision should use the individual dog’s measurements and the manufacturer’s current interior dimensions.
